The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery has declared Monday a public holiday as Muslims across the country marks Eid-Al-Fitr on Sunday which is a Statutory Public Holiday.
“However, 24th May, 2020 falls on a Sunday and by Executive Instrument (E.I), His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) has declared Monday, 2Sth May, 2020 as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
During Ramadan, Muslims focus on purifying themselves, getting closer to God, and growing in their knowledge/faith.
